March President's Message

March President’s Message

Hello Everyone,

February has been a hectic, crazy and busy month for me. But we can take comfort in the fact that Spring is on its way and will soon be here.

Last month I mentioned that we need you to come forward. We still need you. We have a full board and we’re pressing forward. We need to keep that energy going and growing. Just think: Alexandria GLCA could be part of YOUR legacy! Please consider getting involved and leading us into our next 30 years! Contact any board member or e-mail me at

First order of business is to point out our March First Tuesday Social is being postponed by one week. So that makes March’s social our SECOND Tuesday Social, being held on March 12. Hey now, we’ve gotten in a rut anyway, so we’re shaking things up a bit. We’re also trying a new venue. We’ll meet at Ramparts Tavern and Grill at 1700 Fern Street, Alexandria, 22302—just in from Quaker Lane. Come on out, visit and let’s explore a new venue together!

Tomorrow, Northern Virginia Gay & Lesbian Professionals will be gathering at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Ballston. Last month there was quite a turn out and I am sure there will be again. Alas, I shall be missing it as I need to be out of town. But do go and check it out. Many AGLCA members routinely attend—why not make it a really good showing for our Organization?!

Bridge Club will meet on the 10th and the 24th. Contact Duane for details if interested in participating. It’s been a regular get-together for some time now.

Second and fourth Tuesdays (12th and 26th) mark Rainbow Tuesdays Clinic for gay, bi, and trans men. Free testing at the Alexandria Health Department. 5-8 PM, but last registration is at 6:30. I ran into Debby Dimon a few weeks ago at another function. She told me Syphilis is still a major problem that is quite prevalent.

Wednesday, March 13 is our book club meeting. We’ll be reading (once I can put down this interesting, although non-edited or proofread book about Freddie Mercury…) The Pursuit of Love, by Nancy Mitford. Details are on the website/calendar.

That’s March. The Board shall be meeting as well to map our course forward. In the meantime, we need nominations for leadership, and more importantly, people willing to fill those roles and keep us moving forward. I’m stepping down at the end of April, as are Buddy and Mark. These are definite. Without a full board, we cannot continue. Let’s not let AGLCA fizzle out.

PS) Don't forget to renew, or join if you have not already become a member! We'd love to have you!
